Librarian Progress

A quick update on some of the progress I've made over the last few weeks. I am behind schedule as usual but fairly pleased with what I've gotten done. The libby still has a lot of touching up to do. I've found that with a white undercoat every missed spot is glaring, as you can spot in the pictures. His robe came out well. I left it white and just hit it with an Agrax Earthshade wash, which gave it a good color.

I've also started on the staff arm of the libby, as well as the work on the storm bolter (not completed). Should finish him soon once I get some missing paint and roll on to the command squad!

WIP Space Marine Librarian

Definitely needs a lot more work with the blue but a good start.
The first three days of work on the Librarian has passed, and I am glad to showcase the progress so far. I have completely finished the first coat of Macragge Blue, leaving only the detail work and a probable second coat/wash/touchup. I need to go back and hit some spots that I missed or the white is showing through. After that I will do a dark wash, and then I might try cleaning up the model a bit with some lighter blue, which would be an experiment for me. Possibly a mix of Macragge Blue and Altdorf Guard Blue followed by straight Altdorf Guard Blue. Here's a picture of all the progress so far.

Building Genesis on Facebook

I have been tremendously pleased with the progress of this blog page, so I wanted to pass along a reminder of the Building Genesis Facebook page. I use FB as another platform to share information, and liking the page is a great way for you as a reader to stay connected. I post more daily updates on that page than I would on this blog, as well as some photos.

So if you could take a second and follow the link and "like" the page I would appreciate it!

Tyranid Broodlord: Spawn of Cryptus For Sale

Quick post here, I have just purchased Shield of Baal: Deathstorm for a future project next summer. Just couldn't resist with all the new Blood Angel stuff flying about that looks fantastic. Anyway, I have some solid plans for this project, which will have to wait until after Genesis, but I am looking to sell the Tyranids as I have no plans of playing them. I have just listed the Tyranid Broodlord from Deathstorm on eBay if you are interested in adding him (it?) to your Nid army. I will eventually be listing all the Tyranids from the box, which includes a Carnifex, 8 Genestealers, and 3 Warriors.

The Spawn of Cryptus is new and unique to Deathstorm and not available anywhere else. If you're looking for a special HQ piece without paying the full price for Deathstorm, here's your chance.

For my US readers, if you're interested follow this link to the eBay listing. I am not planning on shipping overseas, but if an overseas reader really wants to purchase it I am all ears, and I'm sure we can work out something.

Also if you're interested in buying the other Tyranids, comment on the article or email. Prices will start lower than typical GW store price.

WIP Priming the Librarian

Started priming the Librarian, and I am pleased with the results. I was slightly worried how the Skull White spray would work as a primer, but so far I have not had any problems with it. I painted the libby's main body and his storm bolter. I have yet to prime his staff arm as his force staff is bent. I want to straighten it, which I will probably showcase in another series of posts if my technique works.

On the first coat of white there are some definite missed spots. Difficult to get everywhere when spraying straight from a can and not an airbrush. A second coat did the trick though.

FTGT Hobby Budget Challenge

To help spur myself into action and to give myself a reasonable goal to shoot for, I have decided to enter the Facing The Grey Tide Hobby Budget Challenge. FTGT is another 40k blog, which many readers probably keep up with if you are busy on the internet 40k world. The rules are pretty simple. Given 6 months and $75 dollars a month, build a playable army with total cost not exceeding $525. You are allowed one "double up" month where you can spend $150 total. Also money not spent in a month rolls over to the next. My plan is to continue with Genesis but expand it according to the FTGT Budget Challenge rules.

The Library Calls

Been about a month since I've posted and been able to do any modeling really. In that time I have moved to my own apartment, so it's been a busy few weeks. My new modeling station is a great set up though, and if work ever calms down a bit I should be able to start pumping out some models soon.

I am taking a break from the Predator, which was the last model I was working on, and going back to work on some minis. At the moment I have started on the Librarian, which is a Citadel Finecast model.

I'm really excited about this model despite the negative reviews Finecast has received over the years. I don't have any complaints at the moment other than all the tabs and mold lines (they're everywhere) so I haven't primed anything as I'm worried about missing a tab and having to go back and cut it off later. I believe I have just about found them all (fingers crossed).

I am equipping my librarian with the standard force staff (which is bent of course, working on straightening it) along with a storm bolter. Another range weapon won't hurt, and it's pretty cheap. My librarian will probably join with my future termie squad on deep strike runs since my captain doesn't have termie armor and has his own command squad.

I enjoyed working on my first character piece, the captain, and I'm looking forward to the librarian as well. The command squad has some pretty awesome minis as well, which I may do next. The librarian of course has his own paint scheme. I'll do another in depth post about his colors later.

Glad to be back, lots of stuff to work on but determined to get across the line.

Eternal Crusade

I am so very excited about the latest Warhammer 40k game to take flight! Eternal Crusade appears to be heading in the right direction. Slated for release late in 2015, which is frustrating, but I certainly want the developers to get the game right, Eternal Crusade is the first 40k MMO ever to be released. Many gamers were eagerly waiting Dark Millennium, which failed to get off the ground despite
initial promise.

Back to Work

I have been incredibly busy the last 3-4 weeks with work and have been unable to do much painting at all. However, today I am climbing back in the gunner's seat and back to the grind of painting. I know I have been active on the blog, there was simply nothing to update. Work has slowed down a bit this week, so I should be able to start making steady progress again.

I will be posting updates soon, and I'm excited to jump feet first into the 41st millennium once again!

Genesis Chapter vs. Space Wolves Battle Report

My assembled force in its entirety
I had my first full fight yesterday with my Genesis marines against a hungry Space Wolf force. Although the result was disappointing, and my marines didn't exactly fight well (decades of penance when we get back to Newfound), I had a really good time just rolling the dice and getting a better taste for the gaming side of 40k.

My first mistake though was a gross miscalculation of points. For some reason I had in my head that the Captain was 190 pts total, when actually is only 135, so my force was well short of 750 pts, weighing in at 685. I believe I can rectify that temporarily by modifying my Rhino into a Predator to make up the necessary points until I can finish the Predator. The first round of escalation league ends this weekend though anyway, so I only need a temporary solution.

In Vulkan's Name, The Arrival of Rebirth

I myself being a lifelong follower of Vulkan and his sons, and a strict disciple of the Promethean Creed, (so why am I not doing Salamanders right now you ask, more on that later), I was so excited when when Rebirth was announced as the next First Edition title. I eagerly sat and refreshed the page over and over again on the release date until the book became available for preorder. I didn't have to be too worried; though,  as Rebirth has not been as successful as its predecessor The Talons of Horus, and there are still copies available on the Black Library website. The Talons of Horus sold out in under six hours, while Rebirth was made available nearly three weeks ago and some copies remain, albeit just a few.

Escalation League Play Tomorrow

The time has come to sally forth in search of glory. Genesis is going to war. Tomorrow I am headed to Games Workshop: City Walk to play in their 40k Escalation League. This is the opening round of games at 750 pts. I just finished packing my army, and I will be at Games Workshop when the doors open tomorrow at 12.

My biggest challenge tomorrow will be my lack of war machines. I originally designed this list to function as a 1,000 point force, and I was focusing on the getting the troop choices down first. Because of this, I lack heavy firepower. I have taken a few days off from painting so my Predator isn't finished yet but has only been prepped for base coating.

My main focus tomorrow is learning the game and just having fun rolling dice. I have been around the game since I was barely a teenager and now I finally have an army capable of playing a game, so I'm very excited just to get out and play.

In the next few days I will post a battle rep on the blog and my YouTube channel, which should be a good run down of everything that happened during the fighting.

Tomorrow we march for Newfound. We march for our destiny.

Space Marine Captain Photo Shoot

I just finished editing and uploading the pictures of the completed Space Marine Captain. I am very excited to complete the model, and I am pleased with the end product. The total build time was less than a week from start to finish. I've uploaded a few pictures here, but you can check out the full range of photos on the updated Genesis Chapter Photo Gallery. I have also just put up the pictures of Tactical Squad Chronos as well.

Captain Completed

I just put the finishing touches on the captain! Excited to see this model completed, especially being my first HQ choice and "hero" figure that I have done. I added some extra details to make the model special, along with a rock base to make the model truly stand out. Really pleased with how it came out and looking forward to hitting the gaming tables this weekend now that my 750 point army is ready to go. I will take some higher quality pictures tomorrow, but check out the ones I have tonight!

Space Marine Captain

After finishing the Scouts I have started on the Space Marine Captain, which is the last piece that I need to get to 750 pts of Genesis. Working on just one model means everything goes much faster, and in just three days I am nearly done with the model, but I really like how it's coming along. The Captain boxed set is one of the best kits Games Workshop offers. So many weapon choices available, and whatever you don't use on the Captain you can customize another unit. Can't say enough about it really. Anyway, here's just a few pictures of the progress I've made so far. Should be finished tomorrow!

Scouts Photo Shoot

As promised today I did a proper photo shoot with the completed Scouts. Very excited to have finished a unit in just a week and ready to get the final units across the line for some league play this weekend. I have included some pictures on this post, if you want all of the pictures head on over to the Genesis Chapter Photo Gallery here. Enjoy!

Scouts Completed

Finished the Scouts! Just a week ago on Monday I unboxed a bunch of plastic parts, and now I have 5 finished Scout Marines. I am very happy with the finished product and excited to get the Scouts done so fast. My force now stands at 560 pts and finishing out my captain would get me with a playable army for the weekend, although I hope to have my Predator done as well to give my lineup a war machine. I uploaded just a few pictures for tonight as I will do a proper photo shoot tomorrow. Enjoy the pictures and more to come later!

Scouts Update

A short post for tonight but a quick update on the progress I made today. Once again the final stages of painting took longer than I anticipated, even though I tried to make conservative estimates on when I could finish the Scouts. I did finish 2 of the 5 in terms of painting and detailing with only the bases left to finish. The other Scouts have minor details which I know I can finish tomorrow.

Genesis Chapter Scouts: Day 2-4

Lots of progress over the last few days on the Scouts to show you! Had some delays because I had to move my work station, but did some late night and early morning painting to catch up. I got about 5 hours of painting done today, and I estimate I have about 4-6 hours left, which I will try to do tomorrow. More pictures after the jump!

Genesis Chapter Scouts: Day 1

Let's build some Scouts!
Two blog posts in one day! I started on my Scout squad today, and I wanted to show the progress I made so far. It was a successful day of work in terms of how much I got done, and I thoroughly enjoyed working on the Scouts. Breaking up the routine of power armor, power armor, power armor, the Scouts are a welcome change.

Tactical Squad Chronos Complete

Just a few minutes ago I put the final touches on the last Marine in Tactical Squad Chronos! I am very excited to be finished with another tac squad as it is a fairly large unit, especially with all that power armor. I'm in the midst of painting the Scouts, which I will have another update on later tonight. I've uploaded a few pictures here of my completed force so far.

Heavy Weapons Finished

Took longer than I would have liked, but I completed my two Marines with heavy weapons a few hours ago. I still have a little detail work on the purity seals and power packs to go, but the Marines are essentially done. I will complete the remainder of the work early tomorrow, which will give me all of Monday to start work on the Scouts. I am trying to finish them in a week along with my captain. Don't have a lot of time to write and I'm tired from a busy week, but take a look around and enjoy the pictures! Don't forget to like Building Genesis on Facebook!

Early Saturday Update

Some pictures from the progress I made yesterday. My goal is to finish the heavy weapon Marines and the normal bolter Marine today to complete Tactical Squad Chronos. Excited to be almost finished! Tac Squads seem to take a long time with all that power armor. Check out the pictures and stay tuned for another update later today!

WIP Tactical Squad Chronos #5

Heavy Bolter powerpack
I have been really busy yesterday and today with work, but I still managed to get some things done tonight. I believe I am in a great position to finish these 3 models Friday or Saturday at the latest. I am super excited about the three day weekend (in the USA), which will enable me to get a good start on my next unit. I will do the Scouts and my captain at the same time. I can max out some of my other units to get to 750 pts, so my lineup is pretty much set. If my force is ready to go by next Saturday the 6th, I will go for it, but I do have until the 28th to play 3 scoring games, so I know I can be ready by the 13th at the latest.

WIP Tactical Squad Chronos #4

A quick post to show you all my progress for today and to celebrate 1,400 pageviews! I am thrilled to be getting that kind of support and interest after only 4 months of blogging. I could always use some more comments and followers on blogger (hint, hint), but in all seriousness I am thankful for the interest. It takes a lot of work to build a 40k army and make a blog out of it, so it's nice to have some support on the internet. Also glad to welcome a fairly large and diverse international base ranging from Europe to Asia and the Pacific Islands.

Progress for today was good. A solid 4 hours of painting at least. More after the jump!

Heavy Weapons Update

Everything I finished this weekend
Just a brief recap of what I got completed this weekend. A decent amount overall, especially considering all the over stuff I had to do this weekend. It's been relaxing to paint after coming back from work, and the weekends I have more uninterrupted time for the most part. I am almost completely done with all of the first coat of khorne red work, which should allow me to finish these last 3 marines this week, hopefully at least by Wednesday so I can start on my scouts.

Escalation League Details

I had a profitable trip to Games Workshop: City Walk in Sandy Springs, GA, yesterday despite the typical Atlanta traffic. I purchased a Space Marine Predator, which is the final model I lacked for my army list. I am still tinkering with my army list a bit for the Escalation League, but I am jumping ahead of myself. Let me first explain the format of this Escalation League which is one of the better ones that I've seen.

Next Tournament Plans

Despite the frustration of missing tourney after tourney, I am setting my sights on another tourney; however, this one should actually be reachable. The Games Workshop in Sandy Springs, GA, which is officially called Games Workshop: City Walk, is having an escalation league that starts on September 5th at 750 pts. With the second full tac squad completed by the end of this week, I will have 470 pts total. That would give me 2 weeks to get 280 pts. My scout squad is 70 pts and my captain is 190 pts which gets me 260 pts. Another option is my 170 pt command squad that I picked up over the weekend. The captain and scouts I could do quicker than the command squad and the captain, but it's hard to say. Either way, that is the deadline I am pushing for now.

I feel that 750 pts is a reachable goal. This week will be key; though, and I have to absolutely finish the last 3 remaining Marines of my tac squad. I don't think the scouts will take very long especially since they don't have power armor, but I have learned with painting that everything takes longer than you think. If all else fails, I know I can do a vehicle in just a few days, so getting the Predator I need is also an option.

Work limits me to only 1-3 hours of painting a day, and so far my models probably take 8-10 hours per model. Under that pace even finishing 3 guys this week will be difficult. Friday night and Saturday will be key in staying on truck.

Don't give up on your projects! It takes time, hard work, and diligence to see an army to completion. But you can do it!

Monday, August 18, 2014

Weekend Progress

Despite a fruitful 12 hour painting session on Saturday, I was unable to get a playable army ready for the Escalation League which was disappointing. I am rather frustrated with always feeling like I am behind and missing out on so many tourneys because my army is not finished even though I am painting every day as much as I can. Tac squads especially just take a lot of time. However, the silver lining is that I did make a lot of progress, and my force is nearing completion. Take a look at these most recent pictures!

WIP Thousand Sons Terminators

I am at my brother's place for the weekend as I mentioned in my last blog post, and I wanted to share one of the projects he has been working on, his Thousand Son terminators. Some of his other minis can be seen here on the Brothers-In-Arms page. He finished a second squad of Rubric Marines and some vehicles which I will put up on that page as well very soon.

Tactical Squad Chronos Update and Weekend Plans

Progress so far. Some shoulder pads finished and helmets
done
A quick progress report on what I've done the last few days. My army is not going to be ready for the escalation league play at Comics Plus unfortunately, but I will bring what units I have done and make it work with that. With my full time job in full swing now, I can only paint for a few hours each day, so the going has been slow. I still think I can finish at least the this tac squad though before Sunday.

I had to switch from spray painting the insignia to
hand painting them. I was having so many problems with the spray paint, mainly from the humidity I believe, I gave it up for hand painting. Citadel's white paint is notoriously bad, but I have gotten better with it.

Basing Space Marines

After painting your miniatures, the next best thing you can do is to add something to the base. A well painted mini is great, but an excellent looking base can make a model fantastic and add dynamic scenery or contrasting colors to the paint scheme. Basing is another step and more work at the end of an already long process, but it is well worth your time.

A Word About Dark Vengeance

New to 40k? The ultimate beginner's guide and set has been offered by Games Workshop as the Dark Vengeance starter box, and it is the steal of the century.

As a beginner it might be hard to see at first why this is such a great deal, especially because DV still costs $110 big ones, but a deeper understanding of all that DV includes and its gaming potential will prove the sets worth. See why it's such a fantastic idea after the jump.

WIP Tactical Squad Chronos #3

The wheel of progress grinds slowly, but it does grind. My new job and the work it entails consume most of my time, but I love my job and painting models has been a good break from the work week. I am inching closer to finishing though! Here's a few pictures of my latest progress.

Friday, August 1, 2014

WIP Tactical Squad Chronos #2

Another busy day at work, but I managed to squeeze a few hours' worth of progress on Tactical Squad Chronos today. Most of it was just working on the arms and weapons of 3 Marines in particular. I am trying to keep up with an assembly line style, so I plan to finish all the arms and weapons before moving on to the next step. More pictures and descriptions after the jump.

WIP Tactical Squad Chronos

3 Marines with right arms attached
A quick update on the progress I made today. Just started a new job that I really enjoy, but it does take away from my painting time, so I have slowed down a bit. Here is the end product of about 1 1/2 hours of work, so not too bad. More after the jump.

More Progress

Today's completed bounty
I am very pleased with the amount of work I got done today. Takes a lot of effort, but it's well worth it. Still on pace to finish 6-7 of the Marines by Monday/Tuesday night. I ordered some aquila chest pieces from Box of Bits, so I can only do 7 Marines total right now, but I am getting as much done as I can.

Tac Squad 2 Update

What I've painted so far
After solving the problem of the spray paint, which I am very happy about, I was able to get a lot of pieces based and painted in khorne red today. Probably 4 hours of work all told, but that is the only way it can get done. I need 1,000 pts August 15 to play in some more Escalation League with my brother. I still have a little bit left to prime black, but I will try to get as many pieces painted with the first coat of red tomorrow as I can.

Citadel Spray Paint

I have no pictures for this post, nothing to visually show what happened, but I thought this would be useful information to pass along to other hobbyists and gamers. Simply put, Citadel's Chaos Black Spray doesn't work. Well some of the time. And only if you don't know what you're doing. Here's the problem and how I solved it.

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

Completed Rhino

I finished the Rhino! All told it took about 3 days of work and maybe 12-15 hours total. Not bad for a vehicle, and the process never got too tedious as there wasn't a tremendous load of detail work. Finishing the Rhino brings me to 300 points overall in my Genesis force, so making good progress. I am hoping to finish the tac squad in a week, which is pretty optimistic. Realistically, finishing the tac squad will take a week and a half to two weeks. Getting the Rhino completed in such a short time was a huge step though.
Don't forget to check out the YouTube video featuring the Rhino here!

For starters, this was the top access door that I decided to paint the Genesis insignia on. I wanted to do a big Genesis symbol on some of my models, and I was looking forward to painting on a flat surface for once.

Escalation League Battle Report

I had my first taste of an actual battle this weekend, and I must say I really enjoyed it. I still have much to learn in terms of fighting rules and especially tactics, but it was a good run through for me and a chance for Genesis to flex their muscles.

I went down to Macon, GA, where my brother Chris lives, mainly to watch some league play and chronicle his first battles with his Thousand Sons. He has always loved the Thousand Sons, and he had some great kit bashing ideas and conversions to make his army fit the fluff (which I totally support). He worked really hard to get his army finished, but time was against him. He joined the escalation league in the middle of the war so to speak, so he needed 1,000 points in 2 weeks basically. An impossible task if you want all your units painted.

Blog updates

Just a quick update on a face lift of sorts that I have given the blog. I have revamped the old Assault Squad Pictures page into the new Genesis Chapter Photo Gallery tab, where you can view pictures of both the completed Assault Squad and Tactical Squad and eventually my other completed units. Now you won't have to do go digging through old blog posts to find all my pictures.

I am also very excited about the new Brothers In Arms tab at the top of the blog. I have set up this page as a photo gallery of fellow gamers and their armies. My hope is that eventually followers of this blog and whoever I happen to battle with in the future will have their armies featured on this page. So don't be afraid to check out the tabs at the top of the blog!

Rhino Construction: Day 2

I got so much done today! Lots of pictures to share, and it would take forever to narrate all of them, so I might just let the pictures speak for themselves at times. I also put up a video about my progress here. Check it out for a full synopsis.

Started out this afternoon with painting the other side of the hull frames and doors. I wasn't as successful with getting the right mixture. Definitely not an expert with the spray gun yet.

Rhino Construction: Day 1

I have moved right into building the Rhino APC for my Genesis army, mainly because I was tired of painting power armor, and also because I had already purchased the Rhino some time ago and I don't like to leave models sitting around. Whatever you do when you build your own armies, do not impulse buy units. I have to made several paint runs the last week or so, and it's been so tempting to grab the scouts or command squad I need, but I know if I purchase more units they will just add to the stack of uncompleted models I already have. I bought a couple units at the same time for a battle force challenge, which is why I have the back log. Don't let your models pile up. Stick with one unit at a time.

Tactical Squad Completed

The day has finally arrived that I have finished the first tactical squad of my army! I am incredibly excited to get this squad done. Although the process took longer than it should have, close to 4 months from start to finish, I just kept plugging away and eventually got here. As you build your own armies never give up! It may take longer than you expected (it almost always does) and you will be frustrated at times, but the only way to get a completed army is to keep on painting.

Tuesday, July 15, 2014

Rocket Man

It's rocket man, no really, not that guy but the rocket man of the tactical squad. He is the last marine I had left to finish, so now my first tactical squad is finally complete! Took me a few months, but the bottom line is that I stuck with it and finished them and you can do the same with your minis. All that is left is to apply the sand to the bases of this mini and the three others in the background of this picture.

Marine #8

Just a few quick photos to share from recent painting this week. No the blog is not dead, and yes I am still alive and serving the Emperor. And you should be too, because we all know what happens to the faithless . . .

Progress Update

I have not posted in awhile, but I am making progress on Genesis. I am determined to finish the tac squad this week, and I will be making a video about how I make the Genesis Chapter emblem which you can check out on my YouTube channel. I will make a blog post about it as well. Whatever you're working on, don't give up and stay posted for more updates!

Start Small But Dream Big

A common beginner mistake is over ambition when starting an army collection. Ambition and big dreams are good, but when that creative energy is unfocused it often leads to burnout and unfinished armies. When starting an army, several steps can be taken to avoid a loss of desire and ensure you get over the line with a finished collection.

Tac Squad Progress

Here's some pictures of the latest Marine I finished a few days ago. I am really hoping to be done with the tac squad soon, within the weekend at the latest. I just have to finish 2 more normal Marines and one with the rocket launcher, which will take some more time.

Choosing a Faction Part 2

Let's get down to the actual decision making process now. We've looked at the 3 aspects of 40k; the tabletop, collecting miniatures and Black Library. For choosing a faction, I recommend blending all 3 aspects together.

Choosing a Faction Part 1

The 40k Universe

So you're new to the world of Warhammer 40,000. Perhaps you've been to the Games Workshop website, or watched some how to paint videos on YouTube. Maybe you've listened to an excited friend try to tell you the entire history of the Imperium of Man, and you got lost after the Great Crusade and that guy named Horus. No doubt you've heard of the Emperor, the primarchs, power armor and bolters, space elves or something like that, seen tidal waves of massive Orks, and in Terra's name what are these planet eating dinosaurs?

Tac Squad Update

Greetings! I've been making some progress on the remaining Marines in the tactical squad. It's been slow going as the detail work doesn't go quickly, but it's worth it to get a nice looking mini. This is a look at the progress I have made so far on the remaining minis. I plan to eventually, hopefully in the near future, do a full post and video that will detail the actual construction and painting of a Genesis Marine.

Here's a look at my work station. I build and paint my models in sequences, which is not the normal way that most gamers and GW build their models. I find that this process is easier for me to get the detail I want with less stress. I am working on the two Marines that are mounted on the can lids.

Army List

A quick rundown of the army list I am working toward. My goal is a 1,000 point force, not too huge and bulky. 2,000 points would be great, but even a 1500 point army will take awhile to paint, and I will never field an unpainted force. 1,000 is still a challenge but reachable.

Here's my list using 6th Ed rules. The points total listed next to the unit is the total number of points, and the additional points listed in the description are part of that total. The (10x) designations indicate how many men comprise the unit. The full point total is 1,040 points. Let me know what you think!

Tactical Squad Sneak Peek

My first tactical squad is almost complete, and I am very excited about it! My army list includes two tactical squads, so I will still have to finish one more after this, but I can't wait to have the full unit done. Here's just a glimpse at some of the tac squad to whet your appetite. I will have a full post with many pictures later, but enjoy these progress photos for now!

Assault Squad Description Video

My video talking about the Assault Squad just went live on YouTube here. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Sergeant Octavius

His power sword gleams in the sunlight as he comes to earth with the crunch of splintering rock. The engines of his jump pack slow to idle, but still brush away the sand around his feet.

He is Sergeant Octavius. And you are in his way.

Well hopefully you are not, but with his grim demeanor it's hard to tell if he tolerates your presence. If you are a servant of the Emperor; however, you may find mercy.

An Official Welcome!

Building Genesis

Assault Squad

Here is the first look at the assault squad I finished a few weeks ago. I was really pleased with how the minis turned out, and the colors meshed well for a great paint scheme, even though some of it was unintentional. I got this paint scheme from another blog that has sadly dropped out of service, but the Gehenna's Gold was a copper color by the end, and I was looking for a brighter gold when I started. However, the copper color looks great with the deeper red, especially after the Agrax Earthshade wash.

I started with a Chaos Black undercoat which I spray painted using the Games Workshop spray paint. Everything was primed black, legs, torso, jump packs and weapons. Next I did two coats of Khorne Red over the armor, leaving the harness, recesses, and webbing black. I found I had to do two coats to get an even color all around. The second coat adds time, but it's worth it.

Why Choose The Genesis Chapter?

Adeptus Astartes

"They are my Space Marines . . . and they shall know no fear."

The champions of mankind. With thundering bolter fire and the growl of mighty war machines midst the boom of powerful heavy weapons, any Space Marine force is nigh invincible on the battlefield. And a well painted force of Space Marines is just as irresistible on the tabletop. A quick reading of the codex; however, reveals dozens of options for colors, insignia and chapter tactics.

With so many choices of paint schemes and army structures, how did I decide upon Genesis as my first Space Marine army?
